How to record rent paid in two instalments

A worked example shows how to track two payments without counting the full rent twice.

Prepared by the Landlady editorial team. Screenshots are interface previews; check the released App Store version for available features and languages. Landlady records rent and does not collect payments.

Confirm the rental period and total

Suppose 3,000 is due for a period, followed by payments of 1,800 and 1,200. These figures are illustrative, not product prices or exchange rates. Confirm the unit, tenant and period before making an entry.

Enter only the first amount received

When 1,800 arrives, record 1,800 with its actual receipt date and keep the payment evidence. Another 1,200 still needs checking; the period is not fully settled just because one payment arrived.

Save the second payment separately

When the remaining 1,200 arrives, add an entry for 1,200. The two entries total 3,000. Entering another 3,000 on the second occasion would incorrectly show 4,800. Review both records against the relevant bill.

Use evidence to resolve differences

Check the tenant, period, fee type and possible duplicate records. Premium payment attachments let you keep images or PDFs with a payment for easier reference. Neither an attachment nor a reminder verifies a bank transaction for you.
